| In the
spirit of the indigenous peoples of San Diego County, the UC San
Diego California Native American Day (CANADAY) Celebration Planning
Committee and the Early Academic Outreach Program announce the
California Native American Day Essay Contest. To promote the
richness and diversity of Native American history and culture, we
are seeking your support to make this year's contest a success. Please help us get 9th through 12th grade students involved. Enclosed you will find essay contest materials for distribution. We encourage you to duplicate and disseminate these materials in class rooms and learning centers, on community center bulletin boards, and at any other appropriate locations. It is our hope that students of all backgrounds will participate in the contest and better familiarize themselves with the history and cultural issues facing California’s Native American citizens. The deadline for receipt of applications is Friday, October 5, 2007. Winners will be notified after the reading on Thursday, October 11, 2007. Award recipients will be honored on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at the California Native American Day Celebration on the UC San Diego campus. For questions or comments concerning this event, please contact Kim Sykes with the Early Academic Outreach Program at kisykes@ucsd.edu or (858) 534-4250. |
